@shadow walker

Why is net interest income important when valuing banks? is it a measure to find out if the company is profitable ?

Its important bcoz it shows the bottom line growth of the company (main stream profit). Growing net interest income means, company increase their core business model.. net interest income is important but for a financial sector company most important part is Statement of financial position (SFP) and statement of cash flows (SCF).. if you analyze SFP and SCF you can predict net interest income and EPS of company... :-bd

Net interest income :-B

For other companies (manufacturing , retail , construction etc) we calculate Gross profit.. but for financial sector companies we use net interest income. Thats very similar to gross profit of other companies.. financial companies dont have actual goods to sell, they have loans, pawning Nrfc etc.. so we have to calculate net interest income..

Net interest income = interest income - interest expenses
Company take their customer loan interest , pawning interest and finance interest as interest income. Interest expenses means rates they pay to their customers (FD rates and Savings account interest)

Correct SW. But there are other few important KPIs for finance sector companies. Impairment, loan loss provisions, deposit Base growth, loan book growth, to name a few.

the core capital requirement by 2021 is 2.5 billion... for finance companies.
vfin is above this level as per present numbers,
the question is for future growth..... what is the right time.
can that be a attractive issue.

Thanks Shark. VFIN stated cap is just 287m whereas Retained Earnings is 2,157m. Though it is counted as Tier 1(Core Cap) i think they will go for capitalization at some point.
