Last hurdle is cleared for the CSE to move upwards.

Postby winner » Fri Mar 24, 2017 12:30 pm

:ymhug: Last hurdle is cleared for the CSE to move upwards.

Positives

1. Interest rate hike was only 25 basis points, less than expected 50 basis points hike.

2. US has indicated its interest rate hike is gradual rather than a rapid one.

3. UNHRC gave Sri Lanka another 2 years’ time. So we won't have to worry about that for 2 years.

4. Hambanthota port deal is approaching.

5. We might be able to find a partner for Sri Lankan airlines to make it a profitable entity.

6. 1.5 billion dollar bond issue is waiting to bring dollars to stabilize reserves and ease currency depreciation.

7. IMF next tranche in April will bring dollars as well as confidence.

8. Katunayake airport renovations nearing end, thus tourist arrival is getting back to normal.

9. Government revenue is going up due to tax increase.

10. CSE and SEC have started promotions in Hong Kong and Australia with lots of success and more road shows to follow.

11. SEC has come with at least some plans to promote capital market. Though this is not convincing, it shows that they are in correct tract.

12. Continuous foreign buying up to now to the tune of 3.3 billion rupees which is very significant in any standards.

13. Many shares at bargain prices which makes CSE very attractive.

14. JKH selling is nearing an end making way for the market to move up.

15. EU is set to grant GSP+ to Sri Lanka soon.

16. World crude oil price has come down enabling us to retain valuable foreign reserve.

17. Ever rising property market in Colombo depicting the confidence of the investors in Sri Lankan economy and the future in large.

18. The big companies are making profits and giving good dividends.

19. The joint opposition is getting weaker day by day and they don’t seem to have any more slogans to play around.

20. If there was any manipulation to bring down the market and collect low, that must be nearing an end and they will push this up.

I don’t think of writing any negative aspects as lot of people are writing on this.

Good luck for a brighter future.

i am not convinced at all with SEC let alone CSE.
require a total revamp the existing at higher echelons. Period !
replace and we shall see the true potential of this capital market.
the political heads in charge of this economy should understand this simple formula.
need to make SEC independent of political witch-hunt.

You are very much correct SHARK. But the problem is this doesn't happen as per our wish and taking into consideration the inefficiencies of the appointing authorities. In case it happens it would be a very big boost for CSE and there can be a rocket journey.

Totally agree with you.

We are not lucky enough to have good, efficient leaders to address these issues as we see in some developed countries. Any how we have to manage with what we have. I was expecting some good politics with this regime change but not anymore. All are the same with little bits of difference

Good one Winner !

Govt has managed to increase revenue. There has been some financial consolidation and rationalization of costs (thanks to the IMF).

Very crucial that they minimize money printing.

After a bit more consolidation we will be "ready to go" (expected growth targets can be met / surpassed)

Vision 2020 should happen as it is financed by the ADB.

If ADB, IMF, WB, JAICA finances something they make sure it gets done by strict monitoring... or money will not get released to proceed to next levels :D

Sri Lanka expects US$7.5bn forex reserves by year-end: CB Governor

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy said he expects foreign exchange reserves to grow to US$7.5 billion by end-2017, helped by inflows from syndicated loans.

Gross official reserves were estimated at US$ 5.6 billion at end-February 2017 compared to $6.0 billion at end-2016.

Coomaraswamy said current reserves amounted to less than three and a half months of imports and was not a “comfortable position.”

“We are operating on a thin margin and if there is some shock or volatility then there can be a crisis. That’s why we’re building up our reserves.”

This week’s central bank policy rate hike should help build reserves along with $1.5 billion expected from a sovereign bond.

Another $450 million is expected from a syndicated loan which could go up to $700 million or even $1 billion, Coomaraswamy said.
(COLOMBO, March 24, 2017)

http://www.economynext.com/Sri_Lanka_ex ... 662-1.html

CB governor's statements are more trustworthy than the politicians. This will add to the positiveness.

If I remember correct last year was also similar pattern occurred. The market went down to 5800 levels in March 2016. There was expectation of a rate hike and concern about capital gains tax.
But there was no rate hike and no capital gains tax. So market recovered and went up to 6700 starting from end of March and April.

There is similar pattern developing this year too in my opinion. We would be able to see upward movement from next week or from April onwards at least for short term. Fingers crossed.

Very good discussion going on. Thanks every one & so sorry about my absence here these days.

Keep this in mind. Every coin has two sides. Don't expect mkt to go down like nothing. It won't happen.

Very soon the truth will come out.
