I agree with you. In stock market everyday some are selling and some are buying. In that process everybody can do mistakes as well. There are risks and returns. Those who have knowledge on the industry and companies will have edge over others. For example they can at least estimate earnings for the next couple of quarters and years based on the information that available for them. Therefore, knowledge is power in stock market as well.

Great traders and investors: Buy what you know and can understand very well.

As I said in this market there are different types of stocks available as a result of prolonged bear market.

Value stocks
Great value stocks (greatly discounted stocks back by fundamentals)
Growth stocks
Momentum stocks (due to short term, mid or long term turnaround in the industry, speculation or technical buying)
Over valued stocks (in bull market still they can go up if market players take positions on them)

I prefer value stocks with growth potential. If we keep track of companies that are following in sectors such as banking and finance, food, plantation, manufacturing, investment trusts and property, diversify, healthcare, telecom and hotels etc we will be able to find out some strong ones when compare with others in the sector in the short, mid and long term. There will be winners in all of above sectors at least seasonally, in bull market or sector oriented bull market. Bear market will follow by bull market and bull market will follow by bear market.

Hello Traderchandi

I went through few sectors one by one and also few threads in this forum. Even in the hotel sector there are value stocks. Some are debt free and have cash as well. Did you notice that few intelligent brokers with good research arms are recommending few hotel stocks? I saw that you are interest in few stocks. They also have value. I have one of your stocks as well if you had bought it. It has dropped more than 50% as a result of prolonged bear market and it has come out of its 52 weeks low now. I couldn’t buy more of it as I was busy with few other stocks. I bought some CABO because I found some value there. If you go through some broker research reports with list of stocks, you will find which ones have less debt, more debt, more cash, Low P/E and higher ROE etc. Don’t forget turnaround companies as well. I have highlighted sectors in the previous post. There are future winners. In the plantation sector, I will go for strong ones and having some stability as I have some bad experience.

Suppose P/E ratio will go above 15 even above 20 in a bull market (Many global markets are trading above the P/E ratio of 20 except few markets such as Sri-Lanka).What will you buy then? I will avoid over extended stocks and will pay attention to greatly discounted stocks with good potential. Those days lot of people were talking about wage issues and productivity on tea companies. Everybody went with rubber companies. Suddenly, everything has forgotten and there is a good demand for tea stocks now. I prefer to buy companies which produce things for our daily uses and companies which provide services that need for our daily life. Good luck!

It is going to reach 6500. By Friday either it should pass 6550 or should come down to 6500 at least.
