Re: Who Is The Lead Contestant - 2018 Local Goverment Elections

Postby SHARK » Sun Feb 11, 2018 2:10 pm

One of one meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to take place today, informed political sources said.

the meeting comes in the wake of the defeat suffered by the ruling alliance at the Local Government election.

The discussion is aimed at striking an agreement between the two main parties to seize power in a number of Local Government bodies as a united political force.

The President is currently holding a discussion with a group of SLFP ministers on their future course of action. A sizable proportion of SLFP ministers are also pushing for a truce with the UNP, Asian Mirror reliably learns.

Meanwhile, speaking to Asian Mirror earlier today, a senior Cabinet Minister said the unity government paid the price for contesting the election as divided groups.

"in many Local Government bodies, the total votes received by the UNP. the SLFP and the JVP are higher than the votes received by the SLPP."

"At the Presidential election in January, 2015, all these groups represented the good governance front. It means the mandate for good governance is still valid," he added.

However, the Minister said the good governance front had to suffer a setback as it contested as divided groups. "We were fighting among ourselves. That's the main reason for the defeat."

So some councils chairmanship would be handed over to JVP.

Action will be taken to punish the Rogues in UNP. (Only 1) whom we all know. This will be to fool the public.

(Its ok at least Rogues are punished :D )

And against Pro MR, or whoever crossing over to MR SLPP.

As suggested a deal would be to taken action against SLPP members holding SLFP membership.

Don't have over estimates on possibilities. Why are you ruling out the possibilities for a coalition between SLFP, UPFA, & SLPP. They were also from same party.

My opinion is if SLPP gets more than 50%, then ethically and morally no choice for the current rulers to stay in power.

With All due respect to results, nobody has got more than 50% of voting. So its within the rules. Just imagine if MR was in power..... what will they have done to get the power.

Be honest MR supporters........

The next immediate move from MR side to be collect 113 votes from the Parliament and get passed a resolution within the parliament to dissolve the parliament. When that is done we can reasonably expect a political stability within the country. So 2018 will be a year with two elections I suppose.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held a special meeting with a group of party seniors at the Temple Trees, a short while ago.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister had informed the group that he would work with President Maithripala Sirisena until 2020.

He had also told his party group that the unity government would continue its full term, despite the result of the Local Government election.

The same decision is to be communicated to President Maithripala Sirisena at a one on one meeting between the two at the President's residence, this afternoon.

However, the Prime Minister had informed that the election result was a wake-up call for the UNP and he intended to take some drastic decisions to put the government back on the right track.

He has emphasized the need on expediting action on corruption investigations, economic development and bringing down cost of living.

The party seniors had also expressed the view that the Treasury Bond issue was a major reason for the party's defeat at the Local Government election.
